The Hottest Topics in Ed Tech
The article I linked to below talks about what the author thinks are the hottest topics in Ed Tech - exciting technology, or topics related to technology that are in the forefront of how we use technology in the classroom.
First, look at the topics listed, and choose one. Then, look into the topic - usually there's a link to more information within that topic's paragraph, but do a little more research. Put together a paragraph explaining your topic, and why you think it's important in our classrooms.

ReplyDeleteI think that the coding and robotics program would really educate kids in the world of computer programming, after all computers are taking up lots of jobs now and somebody has to know how to program them. I feel that if the kids get a hands on experience with something like robotics, they won't find coding to be much of a chore. If they have fun with the robot by coding it, they'll find coding to be fun and not much of a laborious task. Also, many job opportunities are coming in the future since things are becoming much more dependable on computers.
ReplyDeleteI agree but another point that I'm going to make is that with VR you could learn how to code and build things while "being in" the classroom or place that is teaching those things. Plus it would keep the children engaged if they felt like they were "actually there".
DeleteI agree with Gavin about the coding and robotics program would help kids with computer programming and have them learn more to get better jobs. I don't really agree with Shay of the fact of "being in" the classroom, I think they should actually be in the classroom doing hands on work.
DeleteI agree since jobs are changing to mostly all computer related many kids and people would benefit from this type of robotics.
DeleteI also agree that coding and robotics programs would help kids later in life. With jobs always changing I feel like if kids learn this skills early they will just be one step ahead of everyone else.
DeleteYes as the world progresses the kids these days know more about technology then some older men and woman and this type of robotic will be beneficial
Deletei agree you need to have learned the technology in order to work on robotics.
DeleteI think that Virtual Reality is one of the most important and valuable tools for the classroom.
ReplyDeleteVirtual Reality by definition is the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image that can be interacted with in a seemingly real way by a person using special sensors in gloves or a helmet.
I think this would be helpful in classes because it would keep children and even teenagers focus and interested in some subjects, like in history you could watch a movie through virtual reality and it can be like you're in that historical time. Even in science classes like Biology, you could use the VR to "be in the room" of a surgery of some kind or to be in a place in the wild you want to go to but the weather isn't cooperating or if kids forget the permission slip. Another thing it could be used for is health classes, it could simulate drunk driving or how it feels to be on drugs, even how difficult it is to do anything while high on drugs or drunk.
I agree that it'd be one of the most important and would help a lot in the education system.
DeleteIt would be important for classroom but for the students they still need to learn without having VR so they know the standard for education and not addiction to technology at such a young age.
DeletePutting teens and kids in the actual situations would give the best understanding of how things work. They always say you learn from experience and I fully agree.
Deletei agree because having experience would be a greater cause
DeleteI think virtual reality is would be very important for education purposes for not only school, but at home too. It'd be good for tutorials, either DIY or for schooling.
ReplyDeleteI agree and disagree because although VR may be very effective, and is getting better, it still needs a lot of work to help with schooling because I feel doing hands on work rather than just looking through those like goggle things is better.
DeleteI agree that there could be some improvements but doesn't everything? Literally everything needs some work, phones, computers, cars, and many more things we use everyday are still being improved. Hands on is a valuable tool used to learn but what if you're studying something in history and you can't actually travel there, or if you want to watch in on a surgery but don't have someone around that will let you sit in? It may need some improvements but I think it's the thing that will go the farthest
DeleteYou make a good point, everything does need improvement and always will need improvement because there are always flaws with "the system"
DeleteI think that augmented reality will play a bigger part in education that virtual reality. it will be very expensive to get very kid a head set, where you can use augmented on eeryones pphone.
DeleteSTEM/STEAM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students science, technology, engineering Art and Math. This is an important in the basics of learning and understanding that could help kids over the course of high school and help excel in other classes. Also it provides good observations methods and more ways to learn based on the child's personality. Students often score higher percentages on tests and provides more advances to further their education for college prep. It is a great way for the teachers to interact with students more.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteI agree. STEM/STEAM gives kids an opportunity to work hands on instead of sitting in a classroom for 40-45 minutes at a time, which can lead to inattentiveness. STEM/STEAM can help kids who have trouble paying attention while sitting in class by teaching the kids how to work with their hands.
DeleteI believe the STEM/STEAM system is very effective because people need to learn the basics of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. It helps other students, and in some cases teachers excel in subjects they don't do so well in. It's a great way for students and teachers to have more of a connection, and for the teachers to be teaching themselves while still learning at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI agree teachers benefit as well as the students. They improve on their understanding of how students learn better in certain subjects and tackle real world situations if they want to have a job in those specific fields having to do with STEM/STEAM.
Deletei agree with you STEM/STEAM will be effective, people do need to learn more about science and all the things that follow
DeleteI agree people need to learn science, technology, engineering and math but why would you need to add art to the list.
DeleteI agree too, all of these things are essential in the kids futures and they will learn special skills that will help them outside of the classroom
DeleteI believe STEM is a great way to allow kids learn things they will probably always be able to use. It really shows how teaching doesn't just have to be from a book
DeleteI agree. Getting knowledge in the STEM/STEAM department will help kids who want to know more about technology and engineering.
DeleteI agree too, adults and kids have to learn different things about science and technology and that not everything comes from a book
DeleteI thing Virtual Reality will really take off because it has even started now. We have VR headsets now and they make us see many different virtual things. Virtual reality has already has a base and it's going to take off even more.
ReplyDeleteI agree Virtual Reality has already taken off so in a couple of years imagine how advance it will be
DeleteI think that the maker movement will be one of them that will take off the fastest. I think this would take off very soon because low budget schools will be able to but this in their schools without using there whole budget just on one item.
ReplyDeleteI agree with having low budget schools it makes everything easier for them and they would be able to afford what they had got.
DeleteI agree, if the maker movement is low budget then it can get to more schools faster.
DeleteI think that Virtual Reality will take off quickly due to us already being able to buy VR Headsets in almost any store you go to, it is also something that almost all kids find interesting and could lead to many new things in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think coding and robotics will take off the fastest because everything new companies are making has technology in it and the technology in the machines need coding. And if people get the chance to learn to code in school, they can use it to find a job in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree if kids learn to use this technology at an early stage in life, they can be really good at it in the future, and if they get a hands on experience with it thats something fun, they won't find it as a job, they'll find it as a hobby
DeleteOver all I think all of these new programs and technology is only going to better kids in the time to come. The sooner these kids get to learn how to use all these new technology the further ahead they will be as they begin there work life. Jobs are always changing and trying to get better. As jobs change the skills to do these jobs also change, so if kids can learn these skills at a young age they will just have that much more of a chance to get that job.
ReplyDeleteI think that the new technologies will have a big effect on the kids to come the younger they learn the technology the sooner they could be inventing newer and newer things
ReplyDeleteThe environment you learn in is a very important factor on the outcome of your education. Your physical space surrounding you also affects your mental state, and your mental state should be in top condition when learning. Being distracted, uncomfortable, or even outright upset in a classroom should not be something that happens anymore, and that's why the new things being implemented in schools are making learning easier for so many kids. Thanks to comfortable and convenient furniture, kids are able to focus on studying and learning. There are so many different types of children with so many different learning styles that it's been hard to accommodate to every need. Everyone learns differently, and that's why it's so important we take everyone into consideration and try rearranging classrooms to fit everyone's preference. Technology may become essential in learning, but the environment we learn in should be addressed first.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Many students learn at a different pace, so it is important that they, too, get the education they need, even if they learn a little slower or faster than average. The environment the kids learn in is essential.
DeleteThis is a point I didn't make, I agree with both Tabbi and Meghan. All children learn at a different paces and need different environments help your mental state of learning.
DeleteThis has every kid and other person learn this for there education and that shows that everyone learns differently and we learn differently because we all have different mind sets.
ReplyDeleteI think STEM/STEAM is very effective in helping kids learn more. When you're just taking notes for 45 minutes every hour for nine months, it can be hard to take in and pay attention to information being handed to you. With STEM/STEAM, there's more to learn about without having to take notes. When we were in middle school, we had a STEM class where we learned to control Lego robots to follow a course, and it helped me because I wasn't sitting down taking in information from the teacher. We were learning how it worked and how to make it go. It helped teach us how things work without taking notes, but rather by a hands on activity.
ReplyDeleteI agree very much that STEM/STEAM is very good way for kids to learn different things
DeleteI agree having hands on lessons help kids learn a lot more than sitting any taking notes. It also helps us learn in a different way which is important
DeleteSTEM/STEAM is a very important factor for school and life in general. These new technology's are new for some of us and it is nice for kids to learn about this is school. This will help kids so they can try different things in class instead of just taking boring notes the whole class period. But it might also depend on the teacher, when I took STEM we did a lot of hands on actives which helped me learn better.
ReplyDeleteYes I too think this another important topic in the ED Tech is STEM/STEAM. The importance of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math are all necessities to the real world and should be taught in all schools today.
DeleteI believe that game-based learning is the most important topics in Ed Tech. This topic is a great way to intrigue children to learn. The children don't realize they are actually learning because what they think their doing is just playing games. Computer games are more effective learning tools because they sustain interest and attention in settings where people are normally bored (Prensky). In my opinion, I'd much rather learn from playing a simple video game than listening to a lecture for an hour. Some teaching strategies, such as lectures make it easy for children to not pay attention and not involved in the classroom conversations. Games on the other hand is an easy and simple way to encourage all children to learn the correct way.
ReplyDeleteI think that incorporating Stem into more school is very important, I think that augmented reality will play a huge part of how we learn in the future. Using augmented reality will turn any thing into a lesson. we can have art class in paris or go to a factory to see how things are made. It will make kids more in gauged in class and will hopefully make education more fun and productive at the same time.
